DIGITAL SCENE KC – Animation

November 3 @ 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm

Free

KC IMAGINE and KC Digital Drive will conduct our second DIGITAL SCENE KC event on Thursday, November 3rd at Trinity Animation from 5:00 – 6:30.  These DIGITAL SCENE KC events are targeted for Kansas City’s digital media professionals.  The purpose is to allow them the opportunity to connect with other professionals in a casual, after-hours networking format.  KC area digital media educators are also invited to the event.  Each DIGITAL SCENE KC event is located at an interesting site that is related to the digital media theme for that session.

In this session, participants will be able to tour Trinity Animation’s studio and learn about the many forms of animation produced by the studio.  Jim Lammers and his team at Trinity Animation develop all manner of 3D visualization for medical, technical and advertising, as well as AR/VR and realtime asset and animation development. In addition, Trinity sells V-Ray, 3ds max, Sketchup, Maya, and most other animator tools and also offers custom training for those. Trinity develops backgrounds for the hit TV Series ARCHER on FXX which just aired its season 13 finale, and Trinity will have some door prizes of Archer swag for attendees.

The session also features several guest exhibitors:

HOLLYWOOD ANIMATION ACADEMY

Gavin Dell recently returned to KC from Hollywood where he spent over 30 years as a Director, Animator, Character Designer & Story Artist for films, games and TV.  He has started a new 2-year animation training program, the Hollywood Animation Academy, to help students gain successful entry into the Hollywood animation scene.

OTHER BROTHER STUDIO

Stuart Bury and Isaiah Powers of Other Brother Studio have done impressive work in many forms of animation but they specialize in very creative use of stop-motion animation.  They will bring objects from their work and show behind the scenes how a recent Halloween animated short was created.

THANK YOU WALT DISNEY

Dan Viets is President of Thank You Walt Disney, the non-profit that owns Walt Disney’s Laugh-O-gram Studio near 31st & Troost.  Dan is a Disney historian and will bring artifacts of interest including a Universal Camera like the one Walt used to create his Laugh-O-gram cartoons in KC.

Scott Cauger is the grandson of A.V. Cauger the owner who hired Walt Disney for his first commercial artist job at the Kansas City Slide Company.  Scott will bring some very interesting Disney artifacts related to his family’s connection to Walt.

STOP-MOTION FOR KIDS

Jeff Daly & Ron Green, former Hallmark colleagues, worked together to create a 20-lesson online curriculum for stop-motion animation targeted to grades 4 – 8.  Check out how their new curriculum can help introduce young people to digital media.

JOHNSON COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE ANIMATION PROGRAM
