Register for a Free In-Person Workshop on Tuesday, May 7th 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.
Workshop Location: Kansas City Young Audiences, 3732 Main Street, Kansas City, Missouri 64111.
This workshop is offered as part of Kansas City’s REMAKE LEARNING DAYS. digiSTORY KC and the DeBruce Foundation are making this workshop available at no charge for the first 25 students who register. This workshop is available for students in grades 3 – 7.
What You Will Learn and Do:
This session provides hands-on learning about “key framing,” “frame rates” and how the “persistence of vision” makes still images appear to move to the viewer. In this session students will use a zoetrope to see how the animation effect works. Then they will construct a simple thaumatrope and a flipbook that simulates animation. The participant will also view examples of animation at different frame rates.
Registered participants will receive materials needed for the hands-on activities during this workshop. REGISTRATION MUST BE COMPLETE BY MONDAY MAY 6th. These materials are being provided to you free of charge thanks to a grant from the DeBruce Foundation.

We encourage parents to participate with their child during this workshop. Making the thaumatrope and the flipbook will require paper cutting, hole punching and knot tying.
