KC IMAGINE and KC Digital Drive are working together to host a youth career conference on November 30th for KC area students who are enrolled in digital media academy programs.  The conference will be held at the Westport Commons Plexpod and will feature three breakout periods, a pizza lunch and a College/Career Fair.

The Hollywood Animation Academy is sponsoring the event.  Lunch is sponsored by the DeBruce Foundation.  Conference planners expect 175 – 200 students to participate in the conference.  Area colleges and career organizations are encouraged to host a booth during the Career Fair that will be held in the 1923 Room from 12:30 – 2:00 p.m.  If your organization would like to participate, contact Ron Green at rronaldgreen@gmail.com.  We are also looking for breakout speakers who can share expertise on digital media careers.

As part of the conference, KC IMAGINE launched the Branding/Visual Identity Challenge—a contest to develop a branding and visual identity solution for conference media.  Seven entries were submitted by area academy programs.  The winner of the contest receives $250 from the contest sponsor: Yoodle—a KC-based content and branding agency located in the River Market.

We are happy to announce the winner of that contest:

Olathe Northwest High School – Afternoon Cohort,  Jennifer Zimmerli, Instructor

This team’s contest entry was appropriately named “Gooey.”  Jennifer, the team’s instructor stated that “the students’ concept centered around emphasizing Kansas City, and they took inspiration from our tradition of beautiful street murals.” Aidan and his team worked to build a package that would enliven the conference with bright colors to energize and engage the targeted youth audience.”  The package was designed by Aidan Clevenger, Autumn Lacross, Maslyn Lee, and Emma Reese who are Juniors in the e-Communication Academy graphic design strand at Olathe Northwest High School.

Tim McCoy, President & Creative Director at Yoodle stated that they were delighted to sponsor the contest and were very pleased with the quality of work submitted by the academy programs.  Yoodle will present the winning team with their prize during opening ceremonies for the November 30th conference.

Designs created by the students from this program will be used on several media formats for the conference:

  • designed banner for Eventbrite registration site
  • PowerPoint template for the conference
  • Speaker cards for social media postings about breakout leaders
  • Custom conference logo
  • Conference flyer

Seven academy teams from three schools participated in the contest: Olathe Northwest High School, Cedar Trails Exploration Center (CTEC) CAPS Desoto and CTEC CAPS Mill Valley.
