DESCRIPTION:digiSTORY KC will host a booth at the 2017 Kansas City Maker Faire.  We will offer demonstrations of stop-motion animation\, green screen technology\, Google Cardboard 3D VR and other digital media programs.  Kids can make a thaumatrope or flip book.  Get you picture taken walking on the moon’s surface\, getting a “Salvy Splash” or standing next to the Eiffel tower using chroma key (green screen) technology.

DESCRIPTION:Stop-motion animation is a fun way to capture your stories and entertain your friends and family. Many famous animators got their start creating stop-motion animation. This process involves posing characters in scenes and situations and photographing each stage of their movement to create animation that reveals their story. In this digiSTORY KC workshop\, participants will work in teams of 2 or 3 to create an original story which they will animate through Claymation\, LEGO® characters or other objects. They will photograph their character scenes against a Green Screen background using a laptop and webcam. They will add voiceovers\, sound effects\, music tracks\, titles\, credits and other features to provide multimedia interest. They will publish their animation to digiSTORY KC’s YouTube Channel where they can share their story with friends and family\, \nRecommended Ages: 9 – 15 \nDates: June 19 – 22 \nTimes: 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. \nCost: $150 per person (plus Eventbrite fees) \nLocation: digiSTORY Academy\, Suite 200\, Connecting for Good\, 3210 Michigan Avenue\, Kansas City\, Missouri 64109 \n \nNote: We offer a $15.00 discount per person when they register as a team. \nParticipants who complete workshop requirements for their team production will earn the following badge through LNRG-KC: \n \nSession 1: Participants learn about animation and how it works. DESCRIPTION:Kansas City Public Library – Plaza Branch\, 4801 Main Street\, Kansas City\, MO \n \nThe public is invited to attend this reception and presentation about Mizzou’s new Digital Storytelling 4-year degree program.  Admission is free.  Come at 6:00 to enjoy the beverages and hors d’oeuvres and then at 7:00 hear program director Joanna Hearne discuss “Digital Storytelling — The Newest and Fastest Growing Major in A&S” followed by Prof. Joseph Erb discussing “From Digital Storytelling to Lightning Paper: Telling Ancient Stories at the Speed of Light.” \nDigital Storytelling — The Newest and Fastest Growing Major in A&S Joanna Hearne \nDigital storytelling combines ancient practices of narrative with computer-based technologies in a variety of media–including images\, text\, audio and video\, animation and networked communication.  Program Director Joanna Hearne shares the story of digital storytelling at Mizzou and invites us to think about how certain forms of media\, such as animation\, can help communities tell their stories. \nFrom Digital Storytelling to Lightning Paper: Telling Ancient Stories at the Speed of Light Prof. Joseph Erb \nJoseph Erb is a citizen of the Cherokee Nation and an artist working in digital animation. Kids love playgrounds because they offer lots of fun things to do. digiSTORY Academy is offering a chance for your child to come and enjoy a digital playground. Come and explore the fun forms of digital media tools and software we have at our digiSTORY Academy. Make a stop-motion animation using LEGOs or clay for a Claymation story. Experience fun 3D virtual reality apps using Google Cardboard viewers. Videotape yourself in front of our green screen and learn how to replace it with a cool background such as Chiefs stadium\, a space scene or a tropical beach. Create a visually appealing presentation in Prezi. Make a fun cartoon flip book. Make your YouTube debut singing or dancing to your favorite song. Try several activities to find something that is perfect for your interests. \nThis meet up is available to kids from 9 – 16.
